The AGGRESSIVE DRIVER is defined as anyone who operates a motor vehicle in an offensive, hostile or belligerent manner, thereby creating an unsafe environment for the remainder of the motoring public. The AGGRESSIVE DRIVER is identified as the cause of a disproportionate number of motor vehicle accidents which result in injuries and fatalities on New Jersey highways. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety estimate that one-third of approximately 240,000 accidents per year in New Jersey is caused by aggressive drivers. The goal of New Jersey's innovative AGGRESSIVE DRIVER/AGGRESSIVE ENFORCEMENT campaign is to reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents and resulting injuries and fatalities. To accomplish this goal, the New Jersey State Police, in coordination with the state's law enforcement and traffic safety communities is working to identify, apprehend and initiate enforcement action against the aggressive driver. New Jersey's AGGRESSIVE DRIVER/AGGRESSIVE ENFORCEMENT campaign is geared to promote a safe environment for the motoring public through enforcement and public education & awareness regarding the dangers of aggressive driving behavior.
