New York Trooper Dies In Car Accident

Today, New York State Police Major Walter Heesch, Troop L Commander, sadly announces the on-duty death of Trooper Jose A. Rosado. At approximately 8:54 AM, Trooper Rosado, working a day shift out of the Riverside barracks, was traveling southbound on County Route 104 approximately one-half mile south of State Route 27, Town of Southampton, when he lost control of his marked patrol vehicle and slid into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Initial investigation shows that Trooper Rosado drove across a black-ice condition causing him to lose control of his Chevrolet Tahoe patrol vehicle and slide sideways into the northbound lane, striking the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban being operated by Linda Ogeka, 47, of Quogue NY. Trooper Rosado was pronounced dead at the scene by Physician’s Assistant Michael Papa from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office. Ms. Ogeka was airlifted to SUNY-Stony Brook Hospital with a fracture to her right ankle. She is being treated and is to be released.

Trooper Rosado, 45 years of age, was an 18-year veteran of the New York State Police, entering the State Police on September 19, 1988, serving his entire career on Long Island. He is survived by his mother, wife, and teenage son and daughter.
